Lawyers-cops spat takes ugly turn in Cuttack; PCR van set on fire

Cuttack: The ongoing tussle between police personnel and lawyers took an ugly turn today after a group of lawyers allegedly set a PCR van on fire in front of the RDC office here today.

The violence occurred this afternoon after a lawyer was thrashed by a few police officials at Nua Bazaar bridge here yesterday morning.

Earlier in the day, a group of lawyers had met the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court seeking his intervention in the incident. Besides, the High Court Bar Association today resorted to a cease-work agitation as a mark of protest against the attack.

The lawyers have also threatened that they would intensify their agitation and continue their cease-work stir until action is taken against the cops involved in the attack.

Last night, over a hundred lawyers had gheraoed the Chauliaganj police station demanding action against the cops.

Sources said the bar association will hold its next meeting tomorrow to decide future course of action.
