Lawyers-police spat: Odisha HC lawyers to continue cease work stir

Cuttack: Orissa High Court Bar Association today decided to continue indefinite cease work stir over ‘police atrocity’ here.

The move came at general council meeting of Orissa High Court Bar Association held here today.

The next course of action will be taken at meeting scheduled on Saturday, informed Bar Association president Srikant Nayak.

Earlier, the Bar Association had held meetings on August 30 and September 3 to discuss the issue. However, the lawyers decided to continue their strike.

The lawyers association had called for cease work strike on August 30 till arrest of the cops for attacking a lawyer in Cuttack.

Taking action against the erring cops, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh suspended two Constables and a Havildar in connection with the attack on a lawyer by cops at Nua Bazaar bridge on August 28 morning in Cuttack.

The DCP suspended Constables BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera for police excesses.

Besides, a one-month notice has been served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation, following which necessary action would be taken, Singh had informed at a Press meet on August 30.
