Lawyers-police tussle: Odisha HC Bar Association to continue cease work stir

Cuttack: Orissa High Court Bar Association decided to continue its cease work strike till arrest of police personnel accused of attacking lawyers in Cuttack.

The move came at general council meeting of the Bar Association held today.

The next course of action will be finalised at meeting scheduled on Monday.

The lawyers association had called for two-day cease work protesting ‘police atrocity’ on lawyers.

Earlier in the day, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh suspended two Constables and a Havildar in connection with the attack on a lawyer by cops at Nua Bazaar bridge on Tuesday morning in Cuttack.

The DCP suspended Constables BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera for police excesses.

Besides, a one-month notice has been served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation, following which necessary action would be taken, informed Singh at a Press meet here today.

“Four cases have been lodged in connection with the incident. Inspector (Crime) is conducting an inquiry into the incident under the supervision of Additional DCP. Action would be taken if anyone found to be guilty,” he added.
