Legendary actor Raaj Kumar once mocked Bappi Lahiri for wearing gold; here’s what happened

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: The world of music suffered a tragedy recently after legendary composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at the age of 69.

The late musician often stood out amongst his peers not just for his music but also for his fashion sense. Lahiri was throughout his career seen wearing many gold ornaments on his body from chains to rings to bracelets. Following his death, an old story involving the late Bollywood actor Raaj Kumar has surfaced on the internet.

According to a report, Bappi Lahiri and Raaj Kumar met at an awards ceremony where the former reportedly told the musician: “Vaah, shaandaar. Ek se ek gahane, bas mangalsutra ki kamee rah gayi hai.”

This comment did not sit well with Bappi Lahiri who was well known for his love for gold ornaments.

If sources are to be believed, the legendary musician’s collection of ornaments will be preserved by his family to keep his legacy intact.

Hundreds of Mumbaikars, Bollywood personalities and music fans bid a tearful ‘alvida’ (adieu) to the ‘Disco King’ as his funeral procession started here on Thursday.

The mortal remains of Bappi-da – as he was revered in the industry – were carried out of his Juhu bungalow to a flower-bedecked van with a huge hoarding of his photo with the trademark jewellery, for his final journey to the Vile Parle crematorium.

Lahiri’s daughter and son, Rema and Bappa and other family members were seen weeping inconsolably as the body was placed on the van and slowly wended its way from Juhu to Vile Parle, a couple of kms away for the last rites.
