Legendary singer Vani Jairam passes away

She will be remembered for Odia classics including 'Megha Barasila' in film 'Sesa Srabana'.

Bhubaneswar: Legendary singer Vani Jairam passed away at her residence in Chennai. She was 78.

Reports said that she had a head injury.

Recently, the name of the classical singer was announced for Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, ahead of Republic Day 2023.

The sudden demise of Vani Jairam sent shockwaves across the country.

Known for recording over 10,000 songs in her career, Vani Jairam has a number of songs in Hindi and several regional languages including Odia to her credit.

In Odia film industry, Vani Jairam had lent her voice to the most popular tracks like ‘Paichi E Jeevane’ in ‘Gouri’, ‘Megha Barasila’ in ‘Sesa Srabana’, ‘Dukha Ete Dei’ in ‘Jai Maa Mangala’ and ‘Pirati Chori Chori’ in Jai Maa Mangala.

She had received state awards from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat and Odisha for her contribution to classical music.
