The truth came to light when veterinary doctor Kailash Chandra Mallik revealed after conducting post mortem that the leopard died due to severe attack on its chest.

According to reports, some poachers had laid snare for hunting boar on Sunday in which the leopard got trapped in the evening.

The poachers first tried to free the wild animal from the snare but as it attacked them injuring one Supasingh Ganda (45), they thrashed the leopard to death with bamboo sticks and chopped off its two claws with teeth and nail, reports said.

Being informed about the death of the animal, Raighar forest officials reached the spot and recovered the carcass on Monday.

Thought the forest officials have seized some teeth and nails, they have not disclosed the name of the accused.

Raighar Ranger Kumar Khara accepting the seizure of four teeth said these were found near the carcass.

“The leopard has been beaten to death by poachers and investigations are on to nab the wrongdoers,” Kumar said.
