Nuapada: A 'man-eater' leopard reportedly killed a woman in a forest at Siliaribahara village under Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha's Nuapada district. This was the second death by the 'killer' tiger in a week.

The deceased woman has been identified as Rameshree Majhi, aged about 45 years.

The incident occurred on Friday when the woman was out of her home to attend Nature's call.

Sources said that neither the villager returned home, nor her family members found her whereabouts since she stepped out of house yesterday. A few villagers spotted the tiger eating a human in the forest. When they tried to disperse the tiger, the wild animal retaliated following which they fled out of fear.

Till the filing of the report, the forest officials had not reached the spot.

A few days ago, the locals had spotted two leopards roaming in the peripheral areas of the forest. Although leopards were previously spotted in the Nuapada forest range, it is for second time that a leopard killed a human in the forest.

On October 30, one leopard had mauled a six-year-old boy to death at Katingapali village under Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Nuapada district. The tiger dragged him to the forest while he was playing with other friends on village road on Monday evening. Before the locals could rescue the boy from the clutch of the tiger, it had killed him.

A few hours after the incident, a leopard mauled a cow to death at the same village.
