Leopard skin seized in Odisha, two arrested

Baripada, Mar 6:

Forest officials on Thursday seized the skin of a leopard and arrested two persons in Odisha’s Baleswar district.

The arrested have been identified as Chita Ranjan Pradhan (50) and Gajendra Jena (42).

Talking to the media, Sanjay Swain, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Baripada, said the Forest staff, acting on a tip-off that the two accused were on a bike with the tiger’s skin to sell it, intercepted them near Baleswar and seized the skin from their possession.

Considering the size of the skin which is 6.9 feet long and 2 feet wide, the leopard will be of 15-years old, Swain said, adding that the poachers had killed the tiger inside Similipal National Park about six months ago.

Interrogation of the two arrested is on, the DFO added.
