Lightning claims four lives in Odisha

Jajpur, Aug 16:

Lightning claimed at least four lives and injured 19 others, eight of them seriously, in different places in Odisha’s Jajpur district, police said.

LightningFive of the seriously injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated while the other injured have been admitted to different hospitals in the district, informed Dr Debabrata Jena, CDMO, Jajpur.

Police said two labourers, engaged in repair of the river embankment of the Baitarani, died on the spot and 11 others were injured when lightning struck at Patapur in Dasarathpur block.

A person who was returning home on a bicycle from Arabal village died on the spot when lightning struck him, police said.

Another person died and eight others were injured while they were working in their paddy fields in Dharmasala block, police added.
