Harbhanga: A team of Income Tax (I-T) sleuths carried out a raid for the second time today, on Boudh Distillery Private Limited (BDPL) in Titirikata under Harbhanga block of Boudh district over alleged tax evasion, which is still underway. Previously, the liquor manufacturer was raided on December 6.
The team reached here in two vehicles early in the morning and raided the office of BDPL.
A private source said that following the first five-day-long raid, the I-T sleuths had picked three BDPL employees for questioning and seized several important documents, a pen drive, and cash.
Worth mentioning, separate teams of I-T sleuths had carried out simultaneous raids at different locations associated with the BDPL. The raids were conducted at places linked to the distillery company in Boudh, Bolangir, Rayagada, and Sambalpur including its registered offices at Kolkata and Ranchi.
A 12-member team was divided into separate groups, who had taken part in the simultaneous raids. About four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans were deployed to assist the raid teams.
Counting of cash seized during the raids on properties linked to a liquor trader at Sudapada in Bolangir district ended after five days while the total amount was more than Rs 305 crore, a source said.
Around 25 cash counting machines and 50 bank employees were roped in for the counting.
As many as 176 sacks containing cash were taken to SBI's Bolangir branch for counting. The Department is investigating to ascertain the source of the ill-gotten money and the media went abuzz with it.
