Liver transplant unit at Odisha’s SCB by Dec end

Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited liver transplant unit at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack is likely to be operational by end of December this year.

Attending a review meeting yesterday, Health & Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das directed the officials to complete the liver transplant unit project at the state’s premier medical institution by first week of December, 2019.

He also asked to take steps within a month for recruiting trained professionals for liver transplant.

Besides, the officials were given two months time to set up the unit equipped with a modular OT (operation theatre) and other necessary equipment.

Worth mentioning, liver transplant unit at the SCB is a long pending project of the Odisha government since 2012. After functioning of the unit at the state-run hospital, the patients consulting the doctors outside the state and spending lakhs for liver transplant will be benefited.
