Locals block NH at Rasulgarh in Odisha capital, traffic hit

Bhubaneswar: Locals today blocked NH-16 at Rasulgarh Square in Odisha capital protesting the attack on a hotelier near the chhak late last night.

They staged road blockade by burning tyres and resorted to sloganeering against police and local administration for allegedly failing to curb loot incidents in the city.

Vehicular movement on Cuttack-Bhubaneswar route was severely affected due to the blockade. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the NH.

The protestors demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the attack. Police reached the spot and tried to pacify them. This apart, policemen were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.

The road blockade was withdrawn after Twin City Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty rushed to the spot and gave assurance regarding quick arrest of the attackers.

Notably, miscreants had allegedly looted gold chain and Rs 50,000 from a hotelier at gunpoint near Rasulgarh Square late last night. Bulu Samantaray, the victim, also sustained critical injuries in the incident as he was attacked by the looters with sharp weapons.
