Bhubaneswar: As Odisha continues to report over 10,000 COVID-19 cases daily, the state Government today extended the ongoing lockdown by two weeks till June 1 to break the chain of the virus transmission.
Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra informed this at a presser today.
The state Government has tightened the restrictions to be imposed during the lockdown. The relaxation period for people to buy essential items has further been restricted. Shops will now remain open till 11 AM every day.
"People can buy the essentials between 7 AM and 11 AM by walking to the nearby markets. Number of guests for marriage-related events has been reduced to 25 from 50," the Chief Secretary said.

Earlier on May 2, the state Government had announced 14-day complete lockdown with effect May 5 in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the state. This apart, complete weekend shutdown (Saturdays and Sunday) is also being imposed throughout the state.
