Lockdown: Odisha man peddles miles to hospital carrying 95-yr-old ailing mother

Bhadrak: Not being able to see his mother suffering from severe pain, a man in Odisha’s Bhadrak district carried his 95-year-old mother to hospital on a trolley with not a single vehicle plying on roads due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

As per sources, one Sunanda Behera,a daily wager, of Gumugada area under Dhamnagar block in the district peddled miles to the Dhamnagar Community Medical Centre (CHC) for treatment of his ailing mother. Sunanda pulls trolley to eke out a living.

Today morning, Sunanda’s nonagenarian mother complained of severe joint pain. She required immediate medical attention. However, no vehicle was available in the area due to the lockdown. Being unschooled, Sunanda could not call up an ambulance or any emergency Helpline. With no option left, he set out for the hospital carrying his mother on his trolley.

Following a checkup, the doctor prescribed medicines for the elderly. After getting all the medicines, the daily wager peddled back to his house with his mother.
