Lockdown restrictions go for a toss in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: Challenging the district administration’s lockdown restrictions,  several shops selling chicken, mutton and fish were found open at various locations in Rourkela of Sundergarh district, which has so far reported 10 COVID-19 positive cases.

As per the instruction of the administration,  fish, chicken and mutton shops are allowed to remain open only once in a week i.e on Sunday from 7 am till 2 pm . Flouting the instruction, vendors selling the non-veg items opened their outlets in the daily wholesale fish market and several other places  in the city, including Panposh NAC Market , DAV fish market, Chhend VSS Market,  Kalinga Vihar, Ispat Market, Munda Market and Vedvyas today.

Large number of customers were seen gathering in front of the shops without maintaining social distancing. It is alleged that the local police and the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) have not taken any action against the violators .

It is pertinent to mention here that the RMC yesterday sealed the Sector 18 market after a shopkeeper of Narla Road, which has been declared as containment zone,  was suspected to have come in contact with another shopkeeper of Sector 18 market.
