Lokayukta appointment after examining SC order: Odisha Min

Bhubaneswar: After three days of ruckus created by the Opposition members in the Odisha Assembly over delay in appointment of Lokayukta, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha today made a statement in the House over the matter saying that the State Government will take action in this regard after examining orders of the Supreme Court.

“Related matters pertaining to Lokayuktas with respect to different states are pending before the Supreme Court of India for decision,” the minister said in a statement in the House.

“The State Government will examine the orders passed by the Supreme Court and after examining the same, appropriate action will be taken,” Arukha said.

Notably, the State Assembly had witnessed repeated adjournments and uproarious scenes as Opposition Congress and BJP members created din in the House opposing delay in appointment of Lokayukta and implementation of Odisha Lokayukta Act in the state.

They had demanded either a ruling from the Speaker or a clarification from the Chief Minister in this regard. During an all-party meeting convened by Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat yesterday to resolve the deadlock, it was decided that the State Government will make a statement in the House over the Lokayukta matter.
