Looters’ gang busted in Odisha capital; 3 arrested

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police busted a looters’ gang with arrest of three persons allegedly involved in several dacoity cases in the state capital.

The accused persons were identified as Kanha Das of Jagatsinghpur district, Shankar Arjun Rao of Jajpur district and Shankar Das of Kharavela Nagar area in Bhubaneswar.

They were caught by the police from a slum near Utkal University campus on Sunday.

According to reports, posing as the ragpickers, the gang members were identifying the houses locked up at day time and looting the house at night.

The accused were in the target of the Commissionerate police after a loot at Niladri Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits seven months ago.

Following complaint by a resident namely Samir Kumar Ray, DCP Anup Sahoo had directed a special squad to probe into rising loot cases in Bhubaneswar.

Acting on a tip-off, the special squad conducted raids at Akhandalamani slum and managed to nab all the three accused persons. They also seized several theft items including jewelries, three LED TV sets, two mobile phones and a bike kept at a slum at Unit-III area following interrogation.

Earlier, five loot cases were lodged against the three at Chandrasekharpur Police Station.
