Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal while the system is likely to intensify into a depression around October 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.
"Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify further into a depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal around 23rd October," the agency said in its morning bulletin.
Rainfall may play spoilsport in Dussehra festivities in Odisha in view of the forecasted depression.
The Regional Meteorological Centre here has predicted light to moderate rainfall or thundershower for several districts of Odisha on October 23. It also predicted that rainfall would increase in coastal Odisha during the subsequent two days.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and at one or two places over the rest districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput on October 23, the Meteorological Centre said.
