Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The system is likely to move across south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts and south Chhattisgarh during the next 3 days.

"Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over central parts of Bay of Bengal & adjoining north Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over central parts of North Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours and move across south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts and south Chhattisgarh during next 3 days," the IMD said in its morning bulletin today.

The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued Red, Orange and Yellow warnings for several districts of the state for today.

Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20cm) rainfall over the districts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Ganjam.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

Yellow Warning: Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Kendrapara.
