Low Pressure concentrates into Depression; Red & Orange warnings for Odisha today

Bhubaneswar: The well-marked Low Pressure area formed over northeast and adjoining areas of east-central Bay of Bengal has concentrated into Depression.

Informing this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and further intensify into a deep depression during next six hours.

“Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over northeast and adjoining areas of eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh and Myanmar coasts moved northwestwards concentrated into a Depression and lay centered 5.30 am today, over northwest and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal near latitude 20.5°N and longitude 89.7°E, about 310 km east southeast of Balasore (Odisha), 250 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 210 km east-southeast of Sagar
Islands,” the IMD said.

“It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Deep Depression during six  hours. Continuing to move in the same direction. It is likely to cross West Bengal and Odisha coast between Balasore and Sagar Islands around this evening. After landfall, it would continue to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand towards north Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually,” the weathermen added.

In view of this, the Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued Red Warning for two districts of and Orange Warning for several districts today.

Red Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls (>20cm) very likely to occur over the districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Jajpur, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha and Puri.
