Low Pressure: Extremely heavy rainfall alert for 11 districts in Odisha today

Bhubaneswar: With the formation of low pressure over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts, the regional meteorological centre of IMD issued extremely heavy rainfall alert for several districts of Odisha for today.

According to IMD, the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours.

Under influence of the low pressure, the sea condition is likely to be rough and the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea of West Central adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal today, and over along and off Odisha coast, north-west adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on August 8 till August 11.

The IMD issued orange warning for as many as 11 districts of Odisha for today.

According to Bhubaneswar MeT, Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Balangir, Ganjam, Puri, and Rayagada today.

Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Sonepur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara Angul and Bargarh during today till tomorrow morning.

The rainfall activities under influence the low pressure are likely to continue across Odisha till August 11. The IMD has issued oranage warning and yellow warning for some districts during next 4 days.

As per IMD’s warning, Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Dhenkanal with extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur during August 8 to 9.

The yellow warning issued for one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh where heavy rainfall is very likely to occur during the same period.

The MeT issued oranage alert for the districts over Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Jajpur with extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, and Boudh during August 9 to 10. Yellow warning has been issued for the districts — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Nuapada during the period.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Angul, Kendrapara and Dhenkanal between August 10 and 11.
