Bhubaneswar: The IMD issued a heavy rainfall alert for Odisha with the formation of a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal today.
According to a weather bulletin released by the MeT, Bhubaneswar, A low-pressure area has formed over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked and move northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next 2 days.
Under the influence of the above system over the sea, many parts of the state are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days.
The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts till July 22 starting today.
From July 18 to July 19 morning: Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Yellow warning: Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri.
July 19-20: Orange warning: Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh and Puri.
Yellow warning: Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack.
July 20-21: Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Nayagarh.
Yellow warning: Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khordha, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, and Jajpur.
July 21-22: Yellow warning: Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh.
July 22-23: Yellow warning: Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
The IMD predicted that squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is very likely over deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal adjoining North Bay of Bengal on 18th and along & off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from 19th to 22nd July 2024. The sea conditions are likely to be rough to very rough over deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal adjoining North Bay of Bengal on 18th and along & off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from 19th to 22nd July 2024.
There fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea are of central adjoining north Bay of Bengal on 18th and along and off Odisha coast, north Bay of Bengal adjoining West central Bay of Bengal from 19th to 22nd July 2024.
