Low pressure: Heavy rainfall, gusty surface wind likely in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal has turned into a low pressure which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha during the next 24 hours.

“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha & Gangetic West Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood,” a bulletin of the local meteorological centre said.

Under its influence, rain/thundershower likely to occur at most places in districts of Odisha during next 24 hours, it predicted.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in districts of north Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places in the districts of south Odisha likely to occur during next 24 hours, it warned.

Strong gusty surface wind from northwesterly direction with speed reaching 45-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH in south coastal Odisha and wind from easterly direction with speed reaching 35-45 KMPH gusting to 55 KMPH in north coastal Odisha likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition would be rough to very rough in south coastal Odisha and moderate to rough in north Odisha coast, it added.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea in south Odisha coast and to be cautious while venturing into sea in north Odisha coast.
