Low pressure: Heavy rainfall likely across Odisha from July 8

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure area which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha from July 8, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal & Odisha a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” a bulletin of the India Meteorological Department said.

Under its impact, rain and thundershower in coastal Odisha during the next 24 hours and heavy rainfall in north and interior parts of the state in the next 48 hours are likely to occur, the Meteorological Centre forecasted.

On the other hand, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, gusty surface wind and heavy rain is likely to lash the districts of Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Angul, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri, Keonjhar, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Ganjam, Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh and Sonepur between 1.45 pm and 5.45 pm today, the Meteorological Centre warned.
