Low Pressure in next 12 hrs; heavy rain to lash Odisha’s Twin City today

Bhubaneswar: Rain is likely to lash the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack today, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre here today.

The MeT centre said a few spell of light to moderate rain with one or two spells of intense rainfall (2-3 cm per hour) is very likely to occur over Bhubaneswar and Cuttack areas.

The intense spells of rain will lead to temporary traffic congestion and poor visibility. Due to water-logging of road in low lying areas and inundation of underpass roads, there will be disruption in traffic in cities, cautioned the weathermen.

Officials concerned have been directed to make arrangements for drainage of water.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that a fresh low pressure system is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal in the next 12 hours. The system is likely to further intensify into a depression in the subsequent 24 hours by August 14.

Under its influence, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to lash several parts of coastal Odisha on August 13 and interior parts of the state on August 14, the IMD said.

Besides, wind with speed 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over costal Odisha and adjoining places.

In view of the weather condition, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea till August 15.
