Low Pressure: Intense rainfall alert issued for these Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: With the formation of low pressure area over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal today, the Regional Meteorological Centre of IMD issued intense rainfall alert for several districts.

“Under influence the cyclonic circulation over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level persists, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region. It is likely to move northwestwards towards Odisha coast and become more marked during next 24 hours,” informed Bhubaneswar MeT today.

Due to impact of above system over the sea, many districts including coastal as well as western parts of the state are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during next three days.

The MeT issued orange warning and yellow warning till September 22 morning.

In view of the low pressure and possible depression over the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner had issued an advisory to all collectors to remain vigilant over the situation.

In an advisory, the State SRC asked the collectors of districts under Orange and Yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.

The collectors were asked to submit a report on the damage if occurred due to thunderstorm/whirlwind, lightning immediately.

Heavy rainfall warning in association with the system

Sept 19-20 (Orange warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Koraput.

(Yellow warning): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khordha, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir and Bargarh

Sept 20-21(Orange warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.

(Yellow warning): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Sept 21-22 (Orange warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, and Jharsuguda.

(Yellow warning): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nuapada and Sundargarh.

Fishermen Warning:

Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph likely over deep sea areas of northwest adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on September 19 (today) and along and off Odisha coast and northwest adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on September 20.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of northwest adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on September 19 and along and off Odisha coast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on September 20.
