Bhubaneswar: During summer, a low pressure is likely to form over Bay of Bengal in the month of May, the IMD predicted.
As per IMD forecast, a fresh low pressure is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal during May second week, i.e. after May 5.
However, there is less chance of getting the system being intensified into a cyclone.
"Normally, the cyclones form in the months of April, May and June, but more in May, which is the pre-monsoon period. Accordingly, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal. The probability of low pressure getting intensified into depression is very low. It's too early to predict whether the possible system will intensify into a cyclonic storm," said Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of IMD.
However, the possible low pressure will put no impact on Odisha.
"There will be no impact on Odisha. It may affect Andaman Islands. If the cyclone forms, it may affect south or southeast Bay of Bengal," Dr Mohapatra said today.
Speaking about the intensity of summer in the May in the country, he forecast intense heatwave in east and central-east India.
"The heatwave condition may prevail in north Andhra Pradesh, coastal Odisha and places near interior region of the state, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh. In Odisha, there will be severe heatwave in the month of May. The condition may last upto 4-5 days in the month. The temperature will soar in coastal and interior Odisha districts," he said.
