Low pressure to intensify into depression; IMD issues very heavy rainfall alert for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal that has become well marked is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 48 hours.

According to IMD, a well marked low pressure area has formed over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts at 8.30 am today. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over the same region during next 48 hours and move gradually west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Under influence of the above system, very heavy rainfall is likely to lash parts of Odisha.

As per prediction, extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Odisha on August 7 and 9. Similarly, isolated very heavy rainfall is likely at several places in Odisha on August 8 and 10.

Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm is on the cards for many places in Odisha on August 10.
