Low pressure to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: Regional Meteorological Centre today predicted heavy downpour for many districts in next three days as a new low pressure has been formed over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood areas.

The red warning has been issued for four districts in southern and interior regions of Odisha till tomorrow.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur till September 6 morning,” said the Bhubaneswar MeT in a bulletin today.

The heavy downpour, which is on the cards, may triger flood situation, landslides in hilly areas and disruption of road communication in these above districts.

Meanwhile, the MeT issued orange warning for several districts till tomorrow morning. Under influence of the low pressure, heavy rainfall may lash several places till over the districts of Gajapati, Puri, Koraput, Balangir, Rayagada and Nuapada.

An yellow warning has been issued for isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Malkangiri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara till tomorrow morning.

Besides, heavy to very heavy rainfall is in the forecast for several districts from Sept 6 to 7. The districts that have been issued orange warning included Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Sonepur, Kalahandi and Boudh. The yellow warning has been issued for Koraput, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Rayagada and Angul.

Moreover, the Bhubaneswar MeT predicted heavy rainfall with issuing yellow warning for isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj from Sept 7 to 8.

Again, heavy rainfall likely to occur at several places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal between Sept 9 and 10, after one day gap from Sept 8 and 9.
