Low pressure to trigger heavy rainfall in south, coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 27:

Heavy rainfall would occur in most parts of south and coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure.

“A cyclonic circulation over West Central Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood areas has turned into a low pressure that has formed over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast at 8.30 am today. Under its influence, rain or thundershower would occur at many places in the state with heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of south and coastal district during next 24 hours,” a release by the local Met office here said today.

Gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the Odisha coast during the period, the release said, while warning  fishermen to be cautious while venturing into sea.

It also said that the rainfall would increase in the next 48 hours.
