Puri, May 17:

Activists of Lulu Sena today pelted eggs and green coconuts at the police in a face off between the public and men in khaki at Samjajpur in Odisha’s Puri district.

The incident occurred when Chandanpur police were trying to persuade the agitators to clear the Bhubaneswar-Puri national highway which they had blocked.

The agitators had blocked the highway by keeping the body of one Sudarsan Swain of Kotakana village on the road while demanding the arrest of his attackers.

According to reports, Surdarsan Swain of Kotakana village under Chandanpur police limits who was allegedly injured in a clash with his rivals during a palli sabha (village meeting) held at Bira Ramachandrapur last week on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries yesterday evening at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.

The agitators later dispersed after police assured them to arrest the deceased’s attacker, who allegedly happens to be a supporter of ruling BJD.

“Both sides had clashed with each other. A person belonging to one side has expired while undergoing treatment. We will convert this case into a murder case and will very soon take action against the culprits,” said a police official at the agitation site talking to reporters.
