Rourkela, May 19:
A day after a senior executive of a private insurance company was found hanging inside his rented apartment in the Odisha capital, a second year M Tech student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela was found hanging in his hostel room in the NIT campus here on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, a second year M Tech student in civil engineering, was identified as Atanu Santra, son of Trilok Santra, a native of Medinipur district of West Bengal.
Sources in NIT said at about 1.30 PM, some inmates of Satish Dhawan Hall of Residence informed the hostel authorities that one of the inmates was hanging from a ceiling fan in his room.
Hostel authorities recovered the body and sent it to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), but he was declared dead on arrival.
According to some of his class mates, Atanu was in a jovial mood in the pre-lunch session and had attended all the classes. His friends suspect that he might have taken the extreme step after some sudden development, which
he might have come to know of through his cell phone during lunch hour.
“It is really an unfortunate incident. We have informed his family members,” said R.K.Sinha, Secretary, Public relations, NIT Rourkela.
