‘Mahadeepa’ placed atop Lingaraj Temple in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: ‘Mahadeepa’ was placed atop the Lingaraj Temple in Odisha capital around 9.45 PM by servitors on the occasion of Maha Shivratri today.

Placing of the ‘Mahadeepa’ atop the temple is the most significant ritual of Maha Shivratri as devotees, who were on a day-long fast, waited patiently for the final ritual after which they broke their fast.

Thousands of devotees thronged Lingaraj Temple and other temples of Lord Shiv across the state on the holy occasion. Devotees took turns to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple to make offerings to Lord Shiv as per the rituals.

Crowd swelled in the evening with many devotees sitting inside and outside the temple premises performing puja and lighting diyas. In view of congregation of devotees at Lingaraj Temple, the Commissionerate Police had issued advisory to ensure smooth flow of traffic near the temple.
