Jagatsinghpur: In the wake of flood alert in Mahanadi River system following low pressure-induced incessant rain, Jagatsinghpur district administration ordered closure of all schools for a day.

The district Collector directed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) to close the schools today in view of possible situation arising out of floods in Mahanadi River downstream.

Official sources said that all schools both government and private will remain shut till tomorrow (August 17). The officials have been asked to keep all valuables of schools in safe place.

The order came after the Water Resources Department cautioned that the flood in Mahanadi River to touch its peak during next 3 hours today.
