Mahanadi row: LS Speaker rejects breach of privilege notice by Odisha MPs
Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Aug 12:
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today rejected the breach of privilege notice given by MPs of Odisha’s ruling party BJD against Union Water Resources Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan on the Mahanadi water dispute.
Three BJD MPs Bhatruhari Mahtab, Nagendra Pradhan, and Prabhas Singh had served breach of privilege notice against Balyan alleging that he had mislead the House by providing incorrect information on Mahanadi water issue between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Balyan on July 26 had told in the Lok Sabha that the Chhattisgarh government had sent the detailed project report (DPR) of Kelo project to Odisha in 2006 and the project had got the approval in 2009.
Odisha government had objected to this statement of Balyan in response to which he had said that his statement in the House was based on information provided by the Chhattisgarh government.
