Mahanavami is celebrated on the 4th day of Sharadiya Durga Puja. It marks the end of Navaratri (that begins on Pratipada, Ashwin Shukla Paksha).

As per Chandi Purana, Durga Mahanavami is the last day of battle between Goddes Durga and demon Mahishasura. On ninth day, Devi Durga is worshipped in form of Maa Sidhhidatri, who blesses her devotees with joy and all kinds of Sidhhis (meditative ability).
