Mahaprayan failure in Odisha: Showcause notice to 2 docs; action against hosp staff

Kandhamal: After reports of a body carried on a cot at Daringibadi in Kandhamal due to non-availability of Mahaprayan vehicle surfaced in Media, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) today served showcause notice to two doctors of Daringibadi Community Health Centre (CHC).

The two doctors- Block Public Health Officer Jayapal Senapati and Medical Officer Tapas Behera-have been asked to give their explanation immediately after receiving the showcause letter.

The CDMO also suspended Nirakar Behera, an attendant of the CHC, and transferred staff nurse Trupti Pradhan to Subarnagiri CHC with immediate effect for dereliction in duty in this connection.

“It is clearly mentioned that the concerned medical officer on duty who declares a patient dead will ensure availability of Mahaprayan vehicle or any other vehicle for transportation of dead body. The concerned medical officer will make the transportation arrangements in consultation with local BDO, Tehsildar or local police. In case local revenue or police does not cooperate, he or she can consult to the CDMO and PHO or district Collector and arrange money for the same,” the notice read.

The CDMO asked the two doctors to explain as to why disciplinary action will not be taken against them for violating Government rules causing serious embarrassment to the district health administration and putting general public to harassment.
