Maharashtra-Odisha Cooch Behar Trophy match: Ruturaj steadies innings

A fine, unbeaten century by Ruturaj Gaikwad saved Maharashtra from collapse on the first day of the Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) against Odisha at the Ravenshaw University ground here today.

Put in to bat, the visitors had an early collapse as both the openers Aquib Sheikh and Murtaza Trunkwala went out cheaply with the score at 75 for 2.

However, Gaikwad steadied the innings with a fine and aggressive knock of 175 runs off 240 balls with 26 boundaries and two sixes.

The talented middle order batsman, who ran out of partners, remained not out till close of play with the score at 284 for 6.

For Odisha, Subham Nayak and Suman Mohanty scalped two wickets each while Debapriya Patnaik and Rajkishan Patel bagged one wicket each.
