Maharashtra woman tourist dies in Odisha hospital; negligence alleged

Bhubaneswar: A woman tourist from Maharashtra died of certain health complications at Odisha’s Konark today.

The deceased has been identified as Lilabati Sudam Bargajee (50) of Sambhaji Nagar in Beed district of Maharashtra.

Lilabati along with a few of her fellow villagers was on a tour to Odisha after visiting Gangasagar Mela in neigbouring West Bengal. The group reached Konark in a tourist bus yesterday and stayed in a Dharmashala, sources said.

Lilabati felt unwell after visiting the word famous Sun Temple at Konark and was rushed to a nearby government hospital. She died while being treated at the health facility, sources added.

Lilabati’s fellow tourists blamed medical negligence for her death.

“There was no doctor at the hospital at the time of Lilabati’s admission. The doctor came after a few minutes and administered a bottle of saline to her. The health staff did not do much to save her life,” said one of her fellow tourists.
