Major drug haul by Odisha police; Rs 35 lakh cash seized

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police today busted a gang dealing with narcotic drugs with seizure of a huge cache of brown sugar and cash in Bhubaneswar.

Two persons including a woman were arrested in connection with the illegal trade.

Acting on a tip-off, the Saheed Nagar Police team raided a house at Kesura area and seized 550 gram brown sugar worth around Rs 55 lakh, Rs 35 lakh cash and apprehended two persons including a woman allegedly involved in the trade.

The accused persons were identified as Biswaranjan Rout alias Mantu from Balasore district and Pinky Das from Nirakarpur area of Khordha district.

While Mantu was staying at Hansapal area under Mancheswar police limits, Pinky was residing at Kesura locality under Saheed Nagar police limits in Bhubaneswar.

The police also seized three vehicles (One red colour Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 car, one Yamha Fazer motorcycle and one TVS Apache motorcycle) and six mobile phones.

The narcotic drug gang is active in Bhubaneswar city and selling brown sugar by procuring the same from Jaleswar area of Balasore district. The local people, labourers, students, unemployed youth are their customers, the Commissionerate Police stated in a press release today.

The accused duo has been booked under section 21(C) of NDPS Act.
