Major fire at ordnance factory in Odisha’s Bolangir

A major fire has been reported at the Ordnance Factory at Badmal in Odisha’s Bolangir district.

The fire which broke out yesterday at the godown of Unit no.15 is still blazing and is said to have caused extensive damage, reports said.

Five fire engines from Bolangir, Saintala and Titilagarh have rushed to the spot and are engaged in taming the fire, reports added.

Sources said a fire broke out at the godown of the Unit no. 15 of the factory which contained stocks of chemicals and equipment imported from Russia.

Locals  suspect that the fire that had broken out in a forest near the establishment could have spread to the factory.

Ordnance Factory Badmal is a unit of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India which has process plants with state-of-the-art technology from USA, Germany, Switzerland and Bulgaria which  are mostly PLC based (Programmable Logic Control) and are used for manufacture of Initiatory compositors, Automatic Filling of Detonators, Automatic Dosing, Explosive Filling , Hot Probing, Power Conveyers, CCTV and automatic deluge systems with UV detectors.
