Major mishap averted as spirit-laden tanker overturns in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: A mishap was averted after a spirit-laden tanker overturned midway at Gobara area under Gangpur police limits here in the district.

The tanker driver was injured in the incident. The victim has been identified as Rohit Kumar Rout. The incident took place late on Friday night.

According to reports, the tanker carrying spirit was enroute to the Sugar Industry in Aska  from Boudh district on Friday night. At Gobara locality, the driver lost control over the heavy vehicle after a car suddenly came in front of the former following which the tanker overturned on the road.

Following the incident, the spirit was spilled on the road. The police prohibited commuters off the road fearing major mishap due to spillover of the highly inflammable goods item.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the road in the morning. The tanker was lifted with help of a crane and cleaning work on road is underway by the fire services personnel.
