Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today stayed a lower court's issuance of Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against actor Anubhav Mohanty in a domestic violence case involving his former wife Varsha Priyadarshini.
The Court of JMFC here had issued the NBW against him after the actor-turned-politician repeatedly failed to appear for framing of charges in connection with the case.
It had directed execution of the NBW by May 23.
Anubhav had sought time through his lawyer for appearing before the court citing personal reasons.
In December of 2020, Varsha had lodged a complaint at the Purighat police station here against Anubhav alleging that he locked her in a room in his house at Nandi Sahi here.
On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case against him under Sections 498A, 341, and 506 of the IPC.
Notably, in February of this year, Anubhav received decree of divorce after ten years of marriage with Varsha.
The Orissa High Court had allowed the divorce of the celebrity couple. Hearing a petition filed by Anubhav challenging the verdict of Family Court, Cuttack, the High Court quashed the lower court’s order.
The Family Court had earlier rejected Anubhav’s divorce petition.
The actor had alleged that Varsha refused for consummation of their marriage and caused mental cruelty to him by her conduct towards him and his family members.
