Puri, Apr 19:

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee today visited the Shree Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri to pay obeisance to Lord Jagannath.

Mamata was given a warm welcome by the sevayats (servitors of Shree Jagannath temple) before her entry into Sri Mandir. A delegation of sevayats led by Chhattisa Nijog Nahak Janardan Pattajoshi Mohapatra welcomed her into the temple near the Simha Dwara (Lions Gate).

“Our sevayat brethren welcomed her. She was very happy. She spent about an hour with us-sevayats inside the temple. It was a moment of joy. We blessed her,” said Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, the Mukhya Badagrahi of Lord Jagannath (body protector of Lord Jagannath).

The West Bengal Chief Minister spent about an hour inside the temple premises and offered puja to the deities.

Heavy security bandobast was in place for Mamata at the temple premises. It may be noted here that she is a Z plus category protectee.

However, members of the BJP Yuva Morcha and Bajrang Dal showed black flags to Mamata before her visit to the temple.

Puri police have detained two activists of the BJP Yuva Morcha in this connection.

It may be recalled here that the BJP Yuva Morcha had yesterday threatened to not to allow her entry into the temple premises for her alleged controversial remarks on beef eating.
