Mamita Meher murder case: Despite tight security, eggs hurled at 2 Odisha Ministers

Bhawanipatna: As the ruling BJD has been facing growing backlash from opposition parties over schoolteacher Mamita Meher murder case, two Ministers came under egg attack during their visit to an official programme of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.

Despite tight security arrangements, BJP workers hurled eggs at the vehicle of Culture and Tourism Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi at Pandigaon village in the district when he was returning from the CM’s programme for distribution of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) smart health cards organised at the OUAT premises here. The protesters also showed black flags to the Minister.

Earlier in the day, BJP and Congress workers hurled eggs at Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu’s car and waved black flags at her  near Narla when she was on her way after joining the CM’s event. She had faced huge protest on November 3 during her visit to Sambalpur to attend similar programme.

Worth mentioning, the opposition parties have been demanding a CBI probe into the Mamita Meher murder case and dismissal of Minister of Home (MoS) Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in the incident.

On November 6, BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan sad the state Government is acting like “Dhritarashtra” and shielding the criminals. He had cautioned that the party will continue to protest until the concerned Minister is dismissed from his position.
