Buguda: The body of a minor girl was found today in a discarded well under suspicious circumstances at Dhobataila of Barakolia village under Jagannathprasad police limits in Ganjam. It is alleged that the minor’s brother-in-law impregnated the victim and subsequently killed her.

The deceased was identified as Barsha Samal aka Rinki, who belonged to Makarapalli under Buguda police limits in the district. She was the younger daughter of Gopal Samal from the village. She was a Class X student, a senior police official said.

According to the police source, an FIR was previously lodged by the girl’s family that she was missing. However, her body was spotted by some locals in the morning while floating on water.

Later, the locals informed Jagannathprasad police about it. In turn, a team of Buguda police along with fire services personnel reached the spot and fished out the body from the well.

Police have sent the body to hospital for post-mortem and launched a probe.

“My younger daughter Rinki was secretly impregnated by my son-in-law Santosh Khatei. He had established a physical relationship with the minor girl without our knowledge. After we came to know about it, he said that he would keep her as his second wife,” the girl’s father said.

Santosh took the girl a few days ago and kept her at his friend’s house in Barakolia village. When the family wanted to meet her, the accused avoided it. Suspecting that something had gone wrong, Gopal lodged an FIR on Monday alleging that his daughter had gone missing.

Police have arrested Santosh and are interrogating the accused man in this regard.
