Man and sister-in-law garlanded with shoes, paraded in Odisha village over ‘illicit affair’

Rajgangpur: Six persons were detained by police after a man and his sister-in-law were made to wear a garland of shoes and paraded in village over an alleged illicit affair between two.

The incident was reported from Fakarpada village under Rajgangpur police limits in Sundargarh district of Odisha.

According to reports, Jiten Barua of Fakarpada village under Kutunia Gram Panchayat and Mili Barua, who is said to be his sister-in-law in relation,  had extra-marital affair. Three days ago, Mili had eloped with Jiten.

After their alleged secret love came to fore, Mili’s husband Bijay Barua lodged a complaint and made it clear that he will not accept his wife any more. Even as Jiten is a married, took Mili to his home promising to keep her and her three children with him.

However, the villagers opposed their ‘illicit’ relationship and decided to hand out punishment to ‘erring’ couple at a Kangaroo court. As per decision by five-six members in the village court, the couple was forced to wear garland of shoes and they were paraded in the lanes of village. Later, they were ostracized from the village. A few villagers shot the video of it and posted on social media.

The Rajgangpur police initiated action after the video went viral. They rescued the couple and detained six persons including Sarpanch’s husband Lalu Lakra in connection with the incident.
