Man arrested for raping sister-in-law in Odisha

Odisha police today arrested a person on charges of raping his relative sister-in-law in Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Laxman Murmu of Kendhuamundi village under Khunta police limits, had accompanied the victim while she was returning from nearby Shilaghati weekly market on January 7.

Taking opportunity of the vacant road, Laxman allegedly raped her and threatened not to disclose the matter before anybody.

The victim did not keep her mouth shut and brought the matter to village committee following which a meeting was called to settle it.

However, Laxman did not appear before the village committee.

Later, the victim filed a written complaint at Khunta police station regarding the ordeal.

Police registered a case (No. 7/17) and forwarded the accused to court after arresting him today.
