Man arrested in Odisha’s Cuttack for duping people with Hanuman coin

Cuttack, Feb 7:

Jagatpur police arrested a youth on charges of duping Rs 5 lakh from a person on the pretext of giving him Hanuman coin in Cuttack district in the wee hours today.

The arrested youth has been identified as Ajay Mohanty of Sindho village under Salipur police limits in the district.

Cops also seized Rs 40,000 in cash, five Hanuman coins and a mobile phone from him.

According to police, the complainant, identified as Ramnarayan Jena of Jagannathballav area under Lalbagh police station limits, was introduced with the arrested through an unknown middleman over telephonic conversation.

When the former contacted the accused for Hanuman coin, Ajay promised to give the Hanuman coin in lieu of Rs 5 lakh.

Both finalized the deal over telephone and place where to exchange. Ramnarayan arrived at the predetermined place on January 23.

The accused with his two accomplices received a bag containing Rs 5 lakh from the complainant and returned the same after counting the sum promising that they would return with the coin from Jagatpur Golai. However, they did not return.

After waiting for a long time when the complainant opened the bag, they were surprised to find bundles of plain paper stashed in the bag.

Ramnarayan filed a complaint at Jagatpur police station regarding the cheating on the day of indicdent.

Police started probe into the incident following the complaint and managed to nab Ajay today. He was forwarded to the court, informed a police official.

Notably, the state police have busted numerous rackets defrauding people of lakhs of rupees with a promise to provide the mythical coin which is believed to have supernatural powers.

People believe that the coins have magical powers which change the fortunes for which they spend huge amounts to procure them.
