Man arrested in Odisha capital; pistol, ammunition seized

Continuing with the ‘Operation Black Smoke’ to bust firearm trade and criminal gangs in the city, the Commissionerate Police, along with Quick Action Team (QAT), today arrested a 23-year-old businessman in the Odisha capital for possessing illegally fire-arm.

The accused, identified as Sayad Imran Ali, a proprietor of an electronics shop at Samantarapur in the city, was forwarded to the court here this evening.

The police team has recovered 0.9 mm pistol, four live ammunition from the possession of the accused, police sources said.

A case (number 333/14) has been registered by the Lingaraj police slapping charges under sections 25 of the Arms Act against the accused.

Police is investigating the source of procurement of such sophisticated fire-arm and his intention in possessing the fire-arm.
